When I started this exchange in 2011, I had no idea I'd still be here for a tenth run, typing "Sign-ups 2020" like it isn't a totally ridiculous feat we've pulled off. But here we are, and I hope you're as proud and excited as I am.
Before we dive in, two important things:
1. The end of Nino Exchange
I've officially decided that this is going to be the last run of the Nino Exchange. Ten years is a long time for one person to have continuously run the same event (of course, with the participation and support of all of you!); I'd like to think this exchange was able to contribute something nice to fandom. Sadly, I no longer have the time or energy to run a manual, old-school exchange while still maintaining a high-quality experience for participants. My sense is that it's also getting harder for many writers to keep up with the pressure of writing something nice for a recipient in such a limited amount of time. I always try to be available to help writers come out on the other end with something they're proud of, but there's only so much I'm able to do these days... :(.
That being said, if there's demand for it, I am willing to consider running some kind of non-exchange fic event during this time of the year as a replacement. If y'all are still on board for next year, I'll be fielding suggestions for what we can do to keep the Nino party going. (Maybe something prompt-based on AO3?) I'll post about this again in the reveals post; I would love to hear your thoughts then!
2. The Ayako Clause
So, uh, apparently Nino got married. For those of you who don't feel comfortable reading/writing fic about IRL-married folks, I totally respect that you might have to bow out. Thanks for being here up till now. <3 For those of you who are still game, I would like to ask that you please be respectful both of the people in question and also of the fact that not everyone feels the same way about married!Nino as you do. I'm not saying NOT to write about Ayako/Nino's IRL married-ness if that's what you want to write and that's what your recipient has asked for -- I'm asking you to please be cognizant that for some readers/writers it might be easiest to participate under the premise that she doesn't exist in their Arashi canon/AU at all.
Therefore, upon receiving your assignment, it might be safest to assume that you shouldn't write about Ayako/Nino's IRL married-ness unless explicitly requested. (Of course, please feel free to explicitly request it! As always, please also offer alternatives so that your writer has options to choose from.) Similarly, when arranging assignments, I will assume that writers are generally not planning to write about Ayako/Nino's IRL married-ness unless explicitly stated. (Please feel free to state that you would be willing to write it! As an example: I personally wouldn't feel comfortable writing about Ayako in a major role because I literally know nothing about her, but the canon genfic idea of Nino enjoying antics with Arashi and then going home to his wife for whom he bought an extra wi-fi router totally warms my soul soul and I would write it in a kagayaki wo himeta heartbeat.)
Basically I don't want to see people taking this opportunity to write a fic about Nino cheating on his wife to be with [insert XX here] and then offering it to a recipient who hasn't specifically asked for that. Your cooperation and discretion are greatly appreciated!
Okay, we good? Now we can do sign-ups.
This post got long, so we'll go straight to the copy-paste box (last year's sign-up post for reference, and Rules/FAQ if you need 'em):
Please remember not to comment on other people's sign-ups so that they can edit their comments as necessary. As always, e-mail me at ninoexchange@gmail.com or @/message me wherever if you have any questions/concerns.
You've got till the end of April 13, whenever that ends wherever you are. Sing-ups over! Thanks for coming by. Let's celebrate our final year with a bang! :3.
