Warnings: Some sexual language and cursing
Summary: Nino works the night shift with the eccentric Matsumoto Jun. He's hot, he's kind, and he's... something else.

Hey, y'all, it's time to start the 2020 Nino Party! Before we get into things, the usual final reminders:

- Please remain anonymous until reveals on July 1!

- Please remember to comment on the fic written for you. Your writer worked hard with you in mind and deserves to be acknowledged! If you know you can't get to your fic right away, please try to at least come by and let them know that you'll be back later with a full comment -- and don't forget to actually come back.

- Positivity and happy thoughts in the comments, please! If you have any concerns about the content of a fic or anything else going on during the exchange, please bring it up with me directly.

All right, let's go~
[personal profile] nino_mod
Hey all, we've hit our one-month-left mark! Fully betaed and HTMLed fic (with italics, bold, and other text markings intact) is due in my inbox by June 10, whenever that ends wherever you are. If you need help with a beta, please plan to get the fic to me by June 3. If you need to drop out for any reason, let me know ASAP so that I can get things squared away sooner than later.

Please also let me know ASAP about any extensions you may need, and plan to think long and hard about what exactly your needs are and whether you will be able to finish by the extended deadline we agree on. I've unfortunately been too lenient with rolling extensions in the past, so everyone's efforts to Get It Done by the deadline (or as close to it as possible) will save you, me, and everyone involved a lot of extra stress we don't need in our lives.

The fic header goes like this:

Notes:

Of course, I am always here to field any other questions or concerns, bounce ideas around, go to your house to play with your pets because you've found yourself in an inescapable writing groove, etc. I'm happy to hear from you, whatever you've got for me. <3

All good? Let's Get It Done, friends!

Thanks to all of the amazing writers who turned up for the 10th Nino Exchange! I just sent out all of the assignments -- please check your inboxes to make sure yours arrived. If there are any problems with your assignment, please let me know ASAP. As usual, I will be happy to relay any questions you have for your recipient, if you want details or clarification on what they want for their fic.

My goal this year is to stick to the schedule, and to make your experience as smooth and stress-free as possible. Please do not hesitate to contact me early if you need anything! As always, I will be checking in regularly from my end as well. Smaller updates/notes might appear on the Twitter account, so please keep an eye on it if you aren't already!

The important date to remember is June 10 for getting your completed, beta-read, HTML'ed fic in to me. If you need help on the beta front, please plan to get it in to me by June 3.

All good? Let's end this exchange with the bangingest party yet! :3.
[personal profile] nino_mod
When I started this exchange in 2011, I had no idea I'd still be here for a tenth run, typing "Sign-ups 2020" like it isn't a totally ridiculous feat we've pulled off. But here we are, and I hope you're as proud and excited as I am.

Before we dive in, two important things:

1. The end of Nino Exchange

I've officially decided that this is going to be the last run of the Nino Exchange. Ten years is a long time for one person to have continuously run the same event (of course, with the participation and support of all of you!); I'd like to think this exchange was able to contribute something nice to fandom. Sadly, I no longer have the time or energy to run a manual, old-school exchange while still maintaining a high-quality experience for participants. My sense is that it's also getting harder for many writers to keep up with the pressure of writing something nice for a recipient in such a limited amount of time. I always try to be available to help writers come out on the other end with something they're proud of, but there's only so much I'm able to do these days... :(.

That being said, if there's demand for it, I am willing to consider running some kind of non-exchange fic event during this time of the year as a replacement. If y'all are still on board for next year, I'll be fielding suggestions for what we can do to keep the Nino party going. (Maybe something prompt-based on AO3?) I'll post about this again in the reveals post; I would love to hear your thoughts then!

2. The Ayako Clause

So, uh, apparently Nino got married. For those of you who don't feel comfortable reading/writing fic about IRL-married folks, I totally respect that you might have to bow out. Thanks for being here up till now. <3 For those of you who are still game, I would like to ask that you please be respectful both of the people in question and also of the fact that not everyone feels the same way about married!Nino as you do. I'm not saying NOT to write about Ayako/Nino's IRL married-ness if that's what you want to write and that's what your recipient has asked for -- I'm asking you to please be cognizant that for some readers/writers it might be easiest to participate under the premise that she doesn't exist in their Arashi canon/AU at all.

Therefore, upon receiving your assignment, it might be safest to assume that you shouldn't write about Ayako/Nino's IRL married-ness unless explicitly requested. (Of course, please feel free to explicitly request it! As always, please also offer alternatives so that your writer has options to choose from.) Similarly, when arranging assignments, I will assume that writers are generally not planning to write about Ayako/Nino's IRL married-ness unless explicitly stated. (Please feel free to state that you would be willing to write it! As an example: I personally wouldn't feel comfortable writing about Ayako in a major role because I literally know nothing about her, but the canon genfic idea of Nino enjoying antics with Arashi and then going home to his wife for whom he bought an extra wi-fi router totally warms my soul soul and I would write it in a kagayaki wo himeta heartbeat.)

Basically I don't want to see people taking this opportunity to write a fic about Nino cheating on his wife to be with [insert XX here] and then offering it to a recipient who hasn't specifically asked for that. Your cooperation and discretion are greatly appreciated!

Okay, we good? Now we can do sign-ups.

This post got long, so we'll go straight to the copy-paste box (last year's sign-up post for reference, and Rules/FAQ if you need 'em):

Please remember not to comment on other people's sign-ups so that they can edit their comments as necessary. As always, e-mail me at ninoexchange@gmail.com or @/message me wherever if you have any questions/concerns.

You've got till the end of April 13, whenever that ends wherever you are. Sing-ups over! Thanks for coming by. Let's celebrate our final year with a bang! :3.
[personal profile] nino_mod
This has been a record-breakingly late Nino Exchange, and I'm sorry that we lost steam as we finished things off. Thank you regardless for all of your support and patience, and as always for your endless enthusiasm. This exchange would be nothing without you. <3

Of course, special thanks go to my betas, and to our hero pinch hitter this year, [personal profile] reveetoile, for ensuring that we made it out of this year alive, with all the fic lined up.

Now, reveeeeaaals!

Reveeeeaaals! )

This exchange turns ten next year, and with any luck we'll be able to make it the party Nino deserves. I'm in if you are. :3.
[personal profile] nino_mod
My sincerest apologies for the delay on the last of the fic. After an absolutely disgusting two-week gap between posting days, we finally have all of the fic in, and posting for Nino Exchange 2019 is officially over!

Since there's been plenty of time to read the fic besides this last batch, reveals will go up slightly earlier than usual, on July 17. If there's fic you're still hoping to read before reveals, please do so by then! And of course, if you haven't commented on your fic yet, now's your chance.

Thanks for your patience and understanding, and for being such excellent participants and readers despite your mod being unprecedentedly Fail this year. See you all in a few days!

Title: The moon tells us the truth
Pairing/Focus: Matsumiya
Rating: PG-13 I think for some mentions of violence and deaths (no major character death)
Word count: around 9700
Warnings: minor character deaths, mentions of blood, mentions of wounds, swords, daggers, battles (anything you can imagine happens on battles involving samurai)
Summary: Jun and Nino are meant to protect each other and fall in love with each other but traditions are traditions and which decisions hurt the most? Leaving loved ones behind or not doing all you can do to protect them?
Notes: Dear cutselvage, I hope you like it. I had fun writing it, I swore sometimes during it as well when I started to forget words. I took your prompts for historical AUs, magical realism and Matsumiya and this is what happened. I chose the Heian-period from which I tried to use as many information that I could find and that would benefit this story in any way. But this is still fictional (and I’m bad at doing research) so there might be a lot of inaccuracies for which I’m sorry. If you find the references of the rest of the boys I’ll be overly happy (to be fair, Sho will be an easy find ;))
There is also a dictionary for the Japanese words at the end for the story. So if you don’t know what something is the chance is high it’s explained at the end

Title: Trial Run
Pairing/Focus: Matsumiya
Rating: PG
Word count: 6300
Warnings: Mentions of minor injuries
Summary: Compared to the people around him, Nino takes things slow in every sense of the word, but a new man on the scene threatens to change all that. (Street racing AU!)
Notes: Hi, semikusa! I wasn’t able to make this fic as slow-burn as I wanted to, but I hope you enjoy it anyway. :D I know nothing about cars or street racing, so just pretend whatever I’ve written makes sense, heh. Thanks to the usual folks! <3

Title: This New Life
Pairing/Focus: Ninomiya Kazunari/Sakurai Sho
Rating: R
Word count: ~35,000
Warnings: A violent scene, some adult activities, angst, blood
Summary: The Thirsting Virus isn’t discussed openly in polite society, but the Japanese government closely monitors those who have it. Nino’s with the NLM, helping the Virals adjust to their new lives. His newest assignment proves to be more challenging than most. And not just because the guy’s a celebrity…
Notes: Hello Sky, I’m so happy I got to write Sakumiya for the Master of Sakumiya. After a few different plots didn’t quite work out, I decided to throw a few different things in a blender here, so I hope the end results are satisfying enough for you! It’s a vampire AU that isn’t quite a vampire AU mixed with a newscaster plot and a little forced co-habitation. Many thanks as always to Nino Mod for putting up with my tardiness.

Title: seasons change but your wreathing love never does~
Pairing: Nino/Ohno
Rating: NC-17
Word count: ~27K
Warnings: off-screen animal natural death
Summary: Nino is finally married to his betrothed, a wizard named Ohno Satoshi. They now share not only an intricate vines bond-mark, an apartment, and a dog, but also a new beginning. This is the story of how their first meeting led to everything they have here today.
Notes: Hello [personal profile] lookslikerain! Your prompts are cute and irresistible and you answered ‘dog’ as pet preference so this has been decided since then. :) I hope you enjoy muggle/wizard Ohmiya in this light-hearted fantasy universe. Special shout out to the beta of my wildest dream; you are absolutely amazing! And, Nino Mod, thank you thank you thank you for everything <3

Pairing/Focus: Ohmiya
Rating: PG
Word count: 6773
Warnings: None
Summary: Tsubasa Kabuki troupe, where Nino was affiliated to, received an honor to perform in The Netherlands to promote Japanese culture abroad. He never thought that the performance would lead him to find someone he had been looking for twenty years.
Notes: Dear Rinoahyuna, I hope you like this fic. I used your prompt ‘twenty years later, I’m still in love with you’ in writing it. This fic should have been longer, but I got personal issue during the process, I’m so sorry if it doesn’t turn out in the way you wanted it.
To the Mod, thanks for your support and understanding, you’re the best.

Title: The Hidden Effect of Manning the F*** Up
Pairing/Focus: Matsumoto Jun/Ninomiya Kazunari
Rating: T
Word Count: 4476
Warnings: Language warnings, I guess? I mean, I trust you can handle swears. It's in the title.
Summary: The road to and from Aiba's party is a wonderland, but if only people would stop telling Nino what to do.
Notes: I’m writing the notes as I write the story because why not. First off, I want to say thank you for the mod for putting this on again. Also, thank you to D, who beta’d this fic for me. I greatly appreciate it. Now, to my dear recipient. It took me a hot minute to figure out what I wanted to write, and tbh, watching Supernatural of all things to have me figure it out, so I really hope this isn’t too far off the mark! Please enjoy.

Title: Lavender Soup
Pairing/Focus: Ninomiya/Matsujun
Rating: PG
Word Count: ~8500
Warnings: Not applicable
Summary: Nino has always loved his roommate, but Nino’s magical glamour abilities always seemed to get in the way; a wall between them. All that changes when, after one of Nino’s shows, Jun finds a waif who needs someplace to stay. This leads them to find some answers to age-old problems, and also helps Nino get what he has always wanted. Slice of life AU, made to order.
Notes: Hello gomushroom! Happy Nino day! To everyone, I do not claim to know much about the foster system, adoption, or parenting at all in any corner of the world; I used bits and pieces I scrounged up from what other people have told me and some fictional liberty. It is very unlikely to happen the way it does in this story, but it was so best this way that… well. Suspension of disbelief and in this AU, that’s how it goes. ;)

Title: My Boss, My Weirdo
Pairing/Focus: Sakumiya, Sho x Kitagawa Keiko (?) Matsumiya (one-sided), Aimiya (BFFs)
Rating: PG-15
Wordcount: 75.500
Warnings: slight angst, drinking (mostly as coping mechanism), a psychosomatic condition, attempted fluff
Summary: After being separated for years, Sho and Nino get finally reunited. It could have been so perfect, but rather than being friends again, they now face each other as boss and private secretary, and on top of that, Sho doesn't even seem to remember their childhood friendship. Nino is smashed. Will they be able to find back to their old dynamics despite the obstacles?
Notes: Dear [personal profile] southview, this is for you, I hope you'll enjoy. Maybe, the story is not as fluffy as you wished for, in the beginning, but I tried to create a fluffy ending for you :) Also, I started watched a K-Drama to get inspired for this. What shall I say, I guess it worked (and I'll finish watching it because I like it!). Special thanks to my hard-working beta and of course, thank you to our lovely Ninomod for the never-ending patience.

Title: Marks Classified (The Ninomiya Chronicles)
Pairing/Focus: Ohno/Nino
Rating: PG Teens
Word count: around 15k words
Warnings: none, except for the lame superpower theme?
Summary: They were being monitored for a reason, and Nino, for one, didn’t plan to be executed for treason. But his best friend and roommate seemed hardly bothered, inviting strangers to their home when they both know he shouldn’t. Still, he trusted Aiba to know better.

This was his first mistake.

Notes: dearest ink_letters, allow me to say that I adore your writing so much that it honestly terrified me to find that I was assigned to write for you. That said, please forgive my lame attempt at putting your prompts to life, especially the Superpower/AU/soulmate one. I know that you asked for a dramatic story too, but this ain’t it. Also, I have kept in mind your preferred rating, thus the resulting weirdness. I am so sorry. I hope you like this at least. And to S, please know that your presence alone is enough. Thank you.
