Oh wow, this is a really thoughtful comment, thank you for taking the time to write it. Sometimes I worry I leave a little too much to imagination, so I find it interesting (and relieving!) to get some positive feedback on that particular tendency of mine. I'm also grateful for your comments on characterisation because that's something I can struggle with a bit!
