Be assured, anon. This was enjoyable for me. :) I know what my prompt is, but still I like how I wasn't forewarned that there would be fantasy/supernatural elements in this story. Aimiya's childhood and that scene with the frog was so cute! Everything Aiba and Nino in did in that scene was so adorable from Aiba innocently wiping his muddy hands on Nino's face and proving Nino correct to Nino asking to push Aiba into the mud and actually doing it. Then the fantasy/supernatural bits started to trickle in and by the time Nino saw his doctor with wings I just knew and my excitement probably peaked by then. I was intrigued by the mysteriousness around Aiba and didn't expect the twist, which was lovely and made me kyaa a bit (I'm a fan of the series Supernatural :p). I like it, and the fact that Nino's accident wasn't a car accident (which was obvious) but turned out be a possession! Wow!
Because this is from Nino's pov, I don't feel any loose ends at all. Of course, knowing Aiba's pov would be cool too, but knowing this much makes it super shiver inducing and lends an air of mystique that I think works very well for the story. Add that to the light-hearted and sweetly innocent atmosphere I got from Nino's memories, and the uniquely jaded adult Nino during his boring night-shift, and the mixture was perfect.
About Nino's characterization, he's sooo Nino! I have so many favorite lines between Nino and Aiba, but my most favorite would be: “Oh my fucking god!” Nino said, throwing his controller onto his bed. Dramatically, he threw his head back and covered his face with his hands. I literally could see it happen as if it was real. It was funny and felt so Nino. Story openings are really important too and I especially love this part about yours: Then there is Ninomiya Kazunari, although he’ll just tell you to call him Nino, or Nino-san if you’re unlucky enough to encounter him when he’s grumpy and he hasn’t taken an instant liking to you. Made me giggle because moody Nino is just so cute. Then there's Aiba who was always so cheerful and in the story I just wanted to cuddle him. He's so positive and cute! But then he left Nino with such a sad expression and possibly regret and upon learning his secret, I think about what Aiba kept inside all that time and the fact that despite it he'd shone so brilliantly.
I wondered how the pairing would turn out with Aimiya and side Matsumiya and although I love Matsumiya I think about the what-ifs and could-haves and it's a little sad, though the mood and Aimiya's hilarious reunion didn't make me too sad (and because I love Matsumiya and Aiba did leave anyway so). I wish I understood all the HSJ and other references, but I'm just happy that you put a lot of thought into it and gave me something awesome. Thank you very much!
