ANONNN I'm so sorry it took me so long to sit down and read and comment. But yessssss I am here and this is great and OHGOSH I LOVED HOW MUCH I LOVED ABOUT IT. I have a huge thing (a Thing, even) for how sharp Nino is, and another Thing for how observant Jun is, so mashing those together and making them work as a team was just. The best.
There was just enough curious mystery and such lovely roles played by every member and fun little references that I was grinning painfully the entire time, but of course, of course, what swept me off my feet was the Matsumiya dynamic -- their little snappy comments, the obvious affection between them, how well they work together and complement each other and are clearly in love if you read between the lines ugh so perfect. ;~;
I'm terrible at gushing in comments, but please accept these emotions: gratitude fondness joy amusement merriment excitement nostalgia contentedness. This was clever and fluffy and cute and funny and oh-so-great in more ways than I can express. Thank you for writing this for me, and giving me something to look forward to and to savor and look back on and read over and over again.
And here, have some of my favorite lines, regurgitated to you as if you didn't write them for me, for me ugh I feel so special:
Nino spreads his hands and gives his best charming smile. “That’s my job.”
Nino's job is obviously to steal my heart OMG what an ace and also a cocky bastard.
“Then don’t make appointments before noon,” Jun sighs, and digs in the bakery bag. He pulls out a sugar-glazed donut. Nino takes it with a more happy sounding growl, and starts devouring it in vicious little nibbles.
Everything about this bit is amazing. Nino's so grumbly and Jun takes care of him even though he's despondent about not being able to get more done in the mornings and vicious little nibbles ahhhh.
“No,” Inspector Nagase bellows from the back of the room. “No, no—out, Ninomiya, get out, you can’t have this one!”
OHMYGOODNESS anon every part of my body loves when Nino has an antagonistic relationship with someone from TOKIO -- especially Nagase. SO GREAT to see him in here. *_*
Jun complains, but he also makes breakfast, lunch, and dinner in Nino’s kitchen, and restocks the fridge while he’s at it.
The fools who end up in any kind of relationship with Nino are long-suffering, but they still love him because they can't help themselves and are possibly on some level highly masochistic. XD.
“He’s pretty cute,” Jun opines, after a few moments of silence.
OMG also how can I thank you for writing in Jun's OTP and/or giant crush on Ohno?
But then, some people also say he was a sculptor, or a baker, or a pole-dancer.
And there it goes, into my Ohno Satoshi headcanon.
“What would I do without you, J?” Nino calls fondly, as he clicks on the TV.
From the kitchen, Jun just scoffs.
“Starve.”

“Stake-out!” Nino cries, galloping out the door.

Ohgod I'm going to do all kinds of illegal things just so that people can catch me and I can use this line.
